UFC 108: Mark Munoz vs. Ryan Jensen booked for Jan. 2

Up-and-coming middleweights Mark Munoz (6-1) and Ryan Jensen (14-5) have agreed to hook 'em up in a 185-pound affair at UFC 108 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Jan. 2, MMAmania.com can confirm.

Munoz first turned some heads with two strong showings under the WEC banner in 2008. The collegiate wrestling champion from Oklahoma State University debuted for the promotion at WEC 34: "Sacramento," scoring an impressive first round technical knockout win over Chuck Grigsby.

Six months later he was back in action on the WEC 37: "Torres vs. Tapia" card. And, again, he was impressive with a first round technical knockout, this time over WEC newcomer Ricardo Barros.

Munoz looked to carry that momentum into his UFC debut against Matt Hamill on March 7, unfortunately "The Hammer" used a brutal head kick to send "The Philippine Wrecking Machine" to his first career loss — and a date with a ringside stretcher.

After shaking the cobwebs out, Munoz returned to UFC 102: Couture vs. Nogueira to outpoint a game Nick Catone to steal the split decision win and hopes to take that momentum into his Jan. 2 affair.

Star-divide

Jensen had a rough start inside the Octagon. After debuting with back-to-back losses to submission specialists Thales Leites and Demian Maia, the Elite Performance fighter went 2-1 outside of the promotion only to return and get submitted by Wilson Gouveia at UFC Fight Night 15.

In what was unquestionably a do-or-die situation, he submitted Steve Steinbeiss via guillotine choke back in September at Fight Night 19 to record his first UFC win.

UFC 108 is expected to feature a main event between 185-pound division deity Anderson "The Spider" Silva defending his division title against former light heavyweight champion Vitor "The Phenom" Belfort. Another former 205-pound champion, Rashad Evans, will also likely return to action against another Brazilian, Thiago Silva, in the co-featured fight of the night.

How the recent dissolution of the UFC 106 main event between Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin -- now rumored to be heading for Jan. 2 -- affects this tentative line up, remains to be seen.

UFC 108 Preview: Jim Miller vs. Duane Ludwig Live Streaming

In the latest injury replacement connected to UFC 108, Duane “Bang” Ludwig is expected to replace Sean Sherk who withdrew from his fight with Jim Miller today due to injury. As many of you may remember Sherk was a replacement for the injured Tyson Griffin who was forced off UFC 108 due to injury.

Ludwig has won three of his last four fights with his most recent victory coming on December 4 of this year. Ludwig will make his first octagon appearance since January of 2006 when he defeated Jonathan Goulet by TKO.

The Story So Far: As is the case with almost all of the fights on the main card of UFC 108 this fight went through several iterations before it settled on a final match-up. One thing remained constant though, Jim Miller, while Tyson Girffin and then Sean Sherk withdrew due to injuries Jim Miller stayed true.

Now Miller will have to face off against Duane Ludwig.

Ludwig has bounced around from the UFC to Strikeforce to Sengoku to the ROF all the while fighting some of the best lightweights in the world such as, B.J. Penn, Tyson Griffin, Josh Thomson, Takanori Gomi and even the welterweight Paul Daley. While Ludwig may have lost each of those fights he has still KO'd Jens Pulver, Jonathan Goulet and Yves Edwards.

Ludwig should step in nicely to test Miller who has knocked off TUF season six winner Mac Danzig and TUF season five standout, Matt Wiman.

So with change number nine in place, the expected card for UFC 108 is as follows.

The UFC Heavyweight Championship bout was meant to be between Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin. Originally set on UFC 106, this was moved to UFC 108. Then again, this fight would need to be moved for the second time due to Lesnar’s illnesses.

Whoever won between Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Cain Velasquez would go head to head against the champion between Lesnar and Carwin. But this bout was scrapped because Nogueira pulled out due to staph infection. The Nogueria and Velasquez fight is rescheduled for February 21, 2010 as part of UFC 110.

Another change in the line up is the match between Tyson Griffin and Jim Miller. Griffin backed out because of an injury. Sean Sherk was meant to replace him but he pulled out too. Duane Ludwig takes Sherk’s position and will compete against Jim Miller.
